WSAD2017 Discovery

During the discovery phase we will be finding out the needs of the website’s users, talking to people in the organisation about their goals for the project and explore technical constraints and risks. All of this information will be used to start the alpha phase, where we begin prototyping solutions to the most important user needs.

Over the next four weeks, we will be:

  • Analysing user behaviour by looking at analytics and search logs from previous competition websites as well as worldskills.org
  • Doing workshops to define our users and work out who we’re designing for
  • Doing a competitor review to examine the approaches of other organisations in the field of national/international competitions and other events, identify best practices and areas for improvement
  • Reviewing the results of our survey sent out to the WorldSkills mailing list
  • Talking to lots of individual users about their experiences and needs
  • Developing personas - composite portraits or archetypes representing the goals and needs of the most important types of users
  • Building up a prioritised list of user needs - activities these users want to do on the WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017 website.
