Why is this skill important?
When a vehicle has been involved in a collision, it is the job of the autobody repairer to get it back on the road. Every accident is different, so the repairer must be familiar with often-complex mechanical components and how they work.
You will work in specialist garages using equipment designed for all types of cars and commercial vehicles. After diagnosing the damage, the autobody repairer must then understand the solution and use a variety of machinery and tools to make the repair.
Skill in many types of welding is particularly important, with an understanding of the variety of metals used in modern vehicles.
Once the damaged sections have been removed and replaced to restore the vehicle to roadworthy condition, it can then handed over to a car painter to complete the repair.
