Why is this skill important?
Many of the appliances and objects we use every day depend on CNC Milling.
The operator of a Computer Numeric Control mill, to use its full name, is using a highly sophisticated piece of machinery that creates components using precise cutting tools.
The machinist must be able to understand complex technical drawings, have an understanding of computer skills and software, be a skilled machine operator and understand how various metals behave during the cutting process.
The resulting products can be found in everything from cars and smart phones to kitchen appliances and prosthetic limbs.

Contestants will work with CNC milling machines tools to shape of metal and other solid materials.
-
An ability to interpret engineering drawings and follow the specifications is essential for this Skill.
-
A machining centre is used to fabricate components using cutting tools for removal of material.
-
Competitors will be required to produce metal parts covering different practical scenarios.
