CNC Turning

Creating prototypes from technical designs using a computer controlled lathe that cuts to ultra-fine specifications.

Why is this skill important?

When engineers want to know if a specific part of a design is going to work, they look to CNC Turning.

The finished article is used to create often highly-complex pieces of machinery, with a typical car incorporating around 10,000 parts alone.

Using a blueprint, the operator uses the machine to incredible accuracy of below 10 microns, or six times thinner than a human hair.

A trained operator will be familiar with many types of materials, ensuring the dimensions of the finished piece exactly match the design specifications, with the top machinists achieving this at the first attempt.
