Why is this skill important?
Taking an intricate design and turning it into a beautiful piece of jewellery is the challenge for the jewellery worker.
You will work from detailed drawings provided by the designer to create unique pieces from precious metals and gems or prototypes using lost-wax casting for mass production. On other occasions you will be asked to duplicate or repair pieces of jewellery.
Understanding and correctly interpreting the designer’s vision is key to jewellery making, along with an appreciation of the valuable materials used.
